The BEE Bitcoin Industry Mark

BEE Bitcoin Industry mark: navy and gold seal reading BEE, Bitcoin Industry, Certification Standard

An umbrella certification for anyone dealing with Bitcoin, closely or not. Whether Bitcoin is your core business or a loose connection, such as a business that accepts it, holds it on its balance sheet, advises on it, builds software that touches it, or serves clients who use it, the BEE Bitcoin Industry Mark is designed to give a documented, readable record of how you handle Bitcoin across your operations.

The mark is in preparation. No company is certified yet.

What the mark is

The BEE Bitcoin Industry Mark extends the BEE Certification beyond heat reuse. It is designed to assess the Bitcoin-related side of a business or professional practice against a published standard, and to show the result as a badge or credibility mark others can read. Heat reuse remains one optional track inside it.

Who it is for

  • Mining

Operators and hosting, including the optional heat reuse track.

  • Custody

    Custodians and key management services.

  • Exchanges & brokerages

Trading venues, brokers and OTC desks.

  • Payments & merchant services

  • Wallets & software

Any business that accepts Bitcoin, holds some, or has any other link to it.

What an assessment looks at

Areas an assessment is designed to look at, scaled to how closely a business deals with Bitcoin.

  • Security & custody practices

How Bitcoin and keys are held, accessed and protected.

  • Energy & environmental footprint

Energy use and, where relevant, heat reuse.

  • Transparency & disclosure

What is disclosed about Bitcoin holdings and activity.

  • Governance

Who decides, and how Bitcoin-related decisions are documented.

  • Consumer protection

How clients and customers dealing in Bitcoin are informed and treated.

Criteria weights: To be announced. Fees: To be announced.

How it works

  1. 1

    Apply

Any business or professional with any link to Bitcoin, close or loose, tells us how Bitcoin fits into their work.

  2. 2

    Assessment

The Bitcoin-related parts of your operations are reviewed in the areas above, scoped to how you deal with Bitcoin. Heat reuse is an optional track for those who run miners.

  3. 3

    Review

Findings are documented and reviewed against the published standard.

  4. 4

    Mark

Where the review is complete, the BEE Bitcoin Industry Mark is designed to be shown as a documented badge.
